Creating a community
- We work from surgeries that are out of town and located
where patients live .
- Borough Council consultations in the West End of Crewe
suggest people want local services, this is also in the Borough Plan .
- We intend to stay at Grosvenor and Gresty Brook Medical
Centres if we can .
- We have no plans to move into the new Crewe Health and
Wellbeing Centre but we believe we will be able to use and refer to consultant
services there.
- This will mean we have the only surgery in South Crewe
.
- Grosvenor Surgery is fully used when all the doctors
are here .
- Gresty Brook has some growth room but would need to be
expanded if large numbers of patients wished to register and use that surgery.
- Other services, shops, garages etc are centralising on
the town centres .
- The surgeries encourage other services around them because
of the spending of the staff and the patients. The most obvious is a pharmacy
but the surgeries have 70,000 consultations a year which provides the start
of a centre in the community.
- We want to encourage changes to diet, exercise and improved
mental health. We see some groups with stress because they have so much to
do. We see others who are lonely and have no purpose or even contact with
others. We recognise nice places to live as villages with services, mutual
support and sports teams but this rarely happens in towns. We would like
to see this happening around us to improve the quality of peoples lives.
- We would like to see the social spend, doctors, social
services elderly care etc grouped to form a centre that other private or
voluntary services could work with or set up alongside.
Alternative options rejected
- Moving into the Crewe Health Centre.
- Large impersonal surgeries where the
doctors and nurses separate into different teams and the staff do not know
each other as people.
- Making patients drive to the surgery
on every occasion to allow pram pushers and bike riders to have equal access
to facilities.
Questions we would
like answers to
- Is this the right policy, do patients
prefer local and accessible GP services over integrated in the same building
with Secondary Care Services?
- Will you support us in pushing
the PCT to allow development of one or both of our surgeries to allow us
to deliver services in patient communities?
- Which services do you want us
to work with adjacent to the surgery? Do you agree this should be rehabilitation,
elderly persons care and sheltered housing?
- Which non medical services would
you like to see in your community?
